Editorial Jobs
There are many jobs within the editorial section of the media industry, such as a Newspaper Editor, a Script Editor and more.
A Newspaper Editor is the general boss of a newspaper. They make the decision of what can and cannot be published for print. There could be a headline that is unsuitable to the story or inappropriate in taste, the editor’s job is to discard the headline(s) and order the writer to create a new one. It is quite hard work to be a newspaper editor as the content of a newspaper is vast so they have to read everything thoroughly which is brought to them and then make a decision about whether or not to change it.
A Script Editor is used to look over scripts that are sent to them by a script writer and provide feedback on it, offering tips and advice if they feel any changes could be made to improve the script. They don’t actually improve the script themselves, they provide the necessary information that the script writer can take back to improve their script.
Script Editors are not to be confused with a ‘Script Doctor’ though. Script Doctors are in full time employment, brought in by the studio to amend any scripts where they feel any improvements can be made. Script Doctors are paid very well, with some even paying for their own film to be made with their Script Doctor money.
